The Thermaltake X5 did all this BUT it had a lot of mesh so I worried about noise. it was also the largest of the three. The HAF XB EVO did all this as well but the inability to make easy changes to the lower components turned me off to it. The Mobo tray removal was a nice feature and I liked the idea of sitting the Mobo flat in the build. But this case was also the one with the largest footprint and it lays squad on the floor or desk.
The Air 540 retained the ability to quick, make on-the-spot, tool-less changes by keeping the two sides separate. It also had plenty of elbow room even after you've completed the build and all of your ugly cables were hidden in the right compartment (if looking at the case from the front).
I went with the Black and White version of the Air 540 for even more change (may last two builds were silver and black, respectively.
This build was made primarily for Photoshop illustrating / web programming work and (of course!) general gameplay, namely Overwatch, DCS World, and Battletech right now.
PROS:
- Good spacing of the individual components: PSU, SSD, Optical Drive, and header panel are all on the right side of the frame. The Mobo, Gfx card and HDD are all on the left side.
- Good spacing of the grommet holes for cable pass-through, makes cable management a snap and clean.
- Good space for the longer Gfx cards (I have the EVGA 1070ti SC edition).
- Good headroom for larger air coolers on your CPU if you go that route (I went with water cooling).
- The front-mounted mesh strip allows for easy, relatively unfettered air pull-through and this air gets rushed over the Mobo and its attached components (CPU and cooler) - 2 x 140mm Corsair fans are included; exhausting is through a single fan and mesh area at the rear (another Corsair 140mm fan) of the case.
- The top mesh strip section supports dual-fan All-in-One (AIO) watercoolers and easily exhausts air up or can pull air down.
- There is an air filter for the front mesh only, which is fine for me. I removed it for better air flow. Both mesh strips can be removed which makes building your PC very easy.
- The right compartment can mount one to three 80mm fans at the mesh at the rear face if you want some airflow on the right side of the case. Note that anything larger, including 120mm fans, will not fit.
- The case sports two spots for optical drives at the right side. Many newer cases have dropped this feature as the world moves to USB drive types for external data retrieval (such as seen with WIN 10 installs).
- Two USB 3.0 ports in front is enough for me; the mobo gives me any more I would ever use.
- The empty case is easy enough to tote around with just one arm, making building a snap as you move the box around though the weight of components eventually adds up.
- The sides are closed off solid so noise reduction is reduced; the left side is nearly all transparent so builders can show off their important internals; the other side has only a small mesh area to exhaust the PSU, which sits on its side in this case.
- You can fit 2 x HDDs in the lower section of the left compartment and they reside in tool-less hotswap bays aired from underneath, along their sides, and overhead.
- There is a plastic SSD cage in the right compartment that snaps behind the Mobo area and above the PSU. This cage can hold up to 4 x SSDs and each section can snap off from the main cage so you only have to use the cages you need!
CONS:
- No major faults with this case really. It was everything I was looking for in my new 2018 build and it arrived with no damage and all of the parts were where they should be. The cardboard box IS marked with what the contents are so keep that in mind if you have dodgy neighbors.
- The Black and White edition of this case retails for $20 more than the all-black version, another thing to note.

Corsair Air 540 Case
Hope that helps anyone on the fence about this case! I hope more manufacturers jump on the cube shape for future cases - it really is the way to go.
There is more than enough space on the left side of the case for your mobo, graphics card, etc. I have a Sapphire Nitro r9 390 which is an absurdly massive card and it fits just fine. Lots or room for air flow. Your build won't be cramped by any stretch of the imagination.
The two white LED fans on the front of the case look great but don't do a lot to light up the interior. If you really want to show off your build, I would recommend replacing the rear fan with an LED fan and/or purchase separate LED lighting to place around the interior of the case.
The only con, if you can consider this a con, is that there are only two hard drive bays. But this shouldn't be a huge issue considering how inexpensive large hard drives are now.
I see what some reviewers are complaining about in regards to the 3.5" drive trays being a bit on the fragile side. It's not so much that they're fragile; the interlock that holds the drive in place isn't beefy enough to withstand tugging on it. It holds the drive into the case just fine though and it does release easily; but the SATA connector has a pretty good hold onto the drive so it takes a little more force than you'll feel comfortable exerting trying to get the drive out. If you'll be pulling the drives out on a regular basis you're going to want to rig up a secondary pull tab onto the tray itself to help remove the drive.
The 4x2.5" HDD cage is brilliant. It's about time that manufacturers start including more mount points for 2.5" form factor drives since the overwhelming majority of SSD drives are in that form factor right now.
My only real nit-pick with the case is that the included 140mm fans are a little on the noisy side. I have them hooked up to the fan controller on my Corsair H100i and they're running at a much lower speed than full blast, but they still make more noise than the fans in my old case. It's not deafening but it's not extremely silent either.
If the form factor/design of the case is to your liking then you'll fall in love with it once you get it. Absolutely no regrets on my part buying this case.

In conclusione:
It looks lovely. One of the main reasons I settled on this was it was the only case that really looked elegant. There's a lot of ugly cases out there and a lot of them try too hard to look cool with their weird shapes and garish LEDs. A lot of others just aren't particularly pleasing to look at and if they include windows, they're usually tiny. This looks simple, has more subtle efforts put into the design and the result is great. It looks like something you'd get from the game Portal. Your own little testing facility. It's worth adding that it looks even better in person which can be a little unusual. If you care about the packaging, it comes in a big, material sack inside the box which is pretty good for keeping it protected until you need it and handy to have if you'll ever be taking it with you somewhere.
Around the edges of the wall separating the compartment, there's big holes with black rubber covers for you to push your cables through. Very handy for cable management, the rubber makes sure your cables will be against soft edges and the rubber bits being black keeps the holes nice and discreet. On the side where the compartment is hidden out of view, there's a few bits for you to thread plastic cable ties (either the one time use or the wire kind you just wrap round) for you to help keep your cables tidy and in place.
The case comes with 3 fans, 2 white led ones at the front to take air in and one at the back to push it out.I don't believe there are any other case fan mounts built into the case but you can easily remove the included fans and replace them with your own. It includes the necessary data and power cables for 2 storage drives (SSD or HDD and the removable drive bays support either) that the drives can just slot into with the connectors being on the compartment wall and the cables being on the other side. You may have enough cables of your own but it's a nice little quality of life touch that saves a bit of time.
The expansion slots are tool free meaning things will just clip into place and the expansion covers clip on and off so nothing here has to be permanent or a pain. If you like though, you can still use screws to secure things in place. The SSD drive cage supports at least 4 additional drives and if you don't need it and it's using up space you could otherwise use, it can be clipped on or off easily.
Overall, there's enough space to get everything done and it fits things in nicely. I put a Gigabyte GTX 980Ti G1 on my motherboard and though it's an insanely huge card, it fits in with room to spare. The compartments have enough depth that you shouldn't have any issues, and all of the touches to make organising and securing things in place much easier make the whole thing quite pleasant to put together. The sides of the case unscrew and come off easily too and that window is lovely. It's big and it looks great design wise. The ventilation is also very nice. Lots of it and it's pleasant on the eyes. These also have removable dust filters so it'll be pretty easy to keep things clean.
It's a great case that's well worth the money. If you're looking for something that isn't a big ugly tower or even something that's a bit different with lots of room, easy cable and lots of little quality of life features then I can't recommend it enough. You'll be hard pushed to find something nicer. I'd also say the white version is the best looking one by far but that's really down to personal taste.
Corsair CC-9011048-WW Carbide Series Air 540 Windowed ATX High Airflow Cube Performance Computer Case with White LED Fan - Arctic White
Some details last details for those curious:
• The included case fans are 3 pins and they do work with 4 pin fan connectors.
• The included case fans are already secured in place so that saves you a bit of work if you're not planning on using your own. They are easy to remove if you wish to use your own.
• The drive bays at the bottom of the case on the window side support 3.5 inch HDDs that secure into place with 4 pins on the side.
They also support 2.5 inch SSDs though obviously they're quite a bit smaller and so the pins won't secure them into place. Instead, there are 4 holes on the back right that you need to line up with the SSD and screw into place with the included screws. The back right pin will get in the way but you can just push it out. It'll take a bit of effort to push it out but it'll let you get the SSD in place.
• The SSD drive cage doesn't include any data or power cables so you'll need to obtain your own if you want to use this. My motherboard included more than enough additional data and power cables for additional storage and optical drives so if you're building a new PC, check if your one includes them and if not, the cables can be purchased separately quite cheap.
• The included front I/O buttons and ports are as follows: restart button, HDD LED, Power button and LED, 3.5mm mic jack, 3.5mm audio jack, 2 USB 3.0 ports.
The included cables are more than long enough to reach the appropriate pins on the motherboard.
• There are 8 expansion slots at the back. These are easily removed or attached with screws so again, nothing there has to be permanent.
• The holes with rubber bits for cable management can be removed. I found this out the hard way when the power cable for my motherboard pulled it out of place. Though a bit tricky, these can be secured back into place with a bit of effort. Rest assured that these won't just fall out of place, it takes quite a bit to pull them off.

Though a bit tricky, these can be secured back into place with a bit of effort. Rest assured that these won't just fall out of place, it takes quite a bit to pull them off.
