There are two HDMI ports - one of which is MHL compatible. This is one of the main things that attracted me to this projector. I am actually using my smartphone (Note 3) to project video, powerpoint presentations and photos. With an adapter, I can plug my phone straight into the MHL compatible HDMI port to mirror my screen. On the other port, I have a wireless adapter (Netgear Push2TV) that allows me to stream without any wires at all from my phone, tablet, or laptop. I can switch between the two inputs with a push of a button from the remote that works effortlessly from anywhere in the room since the projector has three IR receivers on the front, back and top of the unit.
Another great plus which made me choose this particular unit is the 6500 hour lamp life compared to the average projector lamp life of 2000 hours - over three times longer! And when I do have to replace the lamp, the cost is much cheaper than the average bulb - around $179 as of this review.
The 25000:1 contrast ratio is a real plus. You get bright vivid pictures with darker blacks than many units, and I have dealt with many dozens of projectors over the years. I have not tried the 3D option yet, but the capability of using it in the future is also a nice compliment to the features of the HD26.
Cons:
- The Optoma HD26 doesn't come with a travel bag. I was disappointed, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.
- There is a lack of input options. Basically, you get two HDMI, and that's it. But, that's all I need.
- The adjustable feet are screw type. There are two in the back and one in the front. I list this as a con because I am used to having a quick release button for the foot in the front. The HD26 doesn't have that. You've got to manually unscrew the foot to adjust the height.
- There is no volume control on the unit itself. Once I couldn't find the remote, and to change the audio volume I had to go into the menu, then a sub-menu, then another sub-menu, then click on volume control, then change the value. During a presentation, you don't want to do this. (On the plus side, the built-in audio quality is good enough to use in smaller rooms).
Overall, I am very pleased with this projector, and will be using it at home as well as for presentations. I actually just returned a unit that cost over twice the price in favor of this one, and I wasn't disappointed. I would highly recommend this product!
The 3D feature is really nice too. HDMI supports 3D, so you don't need to get a fancy expensive cable. I went with the Aurum HDMI cable , which worked well. You will also need DLP-Link glasses, which you probably won't find at Best Buy. Instead I went with True Depth Firestorm LT 3D glasses . In my home theater system, I refrained from buying a mount, but instead hung the projector upside-down from the ceiling using simple wrack that I picked up at Walmart and screwed into the ceiling. Although it's less stable upside-down, there's an option to invert the orientation and angle of projection, so it worked well in the end.
Overall, I'm very happy with my choice. This projector has great specs, it works great, and I'm using it nearly every day. Would buy again.
