So the secret is out and everyone is aware that Apple is slowing down older devices. The official reason given is that as old devices age their battery performance degrade and can cause the device to shut off prematurely and other undesirable effects. Apple decided to deal with this by slowing down older iPhone with an update in order that the reduced capacity of the battery would not cause issues. So if your older devices has gotten slower most likely this update is causing the problem. In this article I will be showing you how to check if Apple is slowing down your iPhone.

What devices are affected?

As of now the devices that are affected are: The iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus,iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. In Oder to check if Apple is slowing down your device you will need to :

1.Download the App Geekbench from the App store.

2.Launch Geekbench 4 and run the CPU test and let it complete. Record the score and compare it to the scores below that are the normal or average for your device.

3.If your device is off by say about 500 or so points from the scores given below that’s acceptable. But if its way off or lower your device is being slowed down by the update.

Remember that your actually score will not be exact but should be close by about 500 points or so to the numbers below. Dramatic differences indicates a problem. You don’t have to use our numbers you can actually Google the normal Geekbench score for any iPhone and get the official numbers from Geekbench.

What does this all mean?

If your score or single core score to be exact is way slower than the normal that indicates that your CPU has been slowed down and you have been affected by the  slow down and your device has been throttled by the update.

What can I do to fix my device?

In order to fix the issue you will need to replace the battery that inside your iPhone with a new one. Once replace your device will start to function performance wise as it should and the slowdown will be gone. Apple is offering to replace the battery of devices affected by their update for about US $30 which is way cheaper than they normally do this for. Otherwise your only option would be to replace the battery yourself if you know how.
